Reading a place through its bus timetable
Where the buses go, how often, and who is on them — the fastest way to understand somewhere you have just arrived.
Before the museum, before the viewpoint, I find the bus timetable. It tells you what a place considers important: which villages get four services a day and which get one, when the working day starts, where people go on a Sunday.
Guidebooks describe the town the visitors want. The timetable describes the town that exists.
